Where it all began.그림의 시작.

When I was a child, there was a small, weathered fish shop in the market alley where I used to walk hand in hand with my mother.
Hanging there was a painting on canvas—a sunset glowing in shades of yellow and red. I remember looking at it and thinking that it felt warm, just like my mother’s hand.
I never knew who the artist was, but the warmth I felt from that painting stayed with me. I think my curiosity about art began in that moment—with the realization that a painting could make someone feel something so deeply.
I have always dreamed that one day, my own work might become a warm and comforting moment in someone else’s life.
어릴적 엄마와손잡고 다니던 시장골목에 굉장히 투박한 단골 생선가게가 있었습니다. 그곳 걸려있던 캔버스에 그려진 , 노랗고붉은 노을그림을 보며 , 엄마손처럼 따듯하다란 느낌을 받았습니다. 누군지모를 작가의 그림을보며 , 그림이주는 따듯한 느낌에서 시작된 궁금증이 시작이였던거 같습니다. 나의 그림이 누군가에게 마음 따듯한 한장면이길 항상 꿈꿉니다

Gifted with a natural artistic instinct and a distinctly personal point of view, Eunsang Choi once dreamed of becoming a painter. He later worked as a tattoo artist, finding another way to express his visual sensibility. Today, he has stepped away from tattooing and runs his own restaurant.

Although life ultimately led him in a different direction, his desire to create never disappeared. Art remains one of his most natural and instinctive forms of self-expression. His work carries a sense of freedom and individuality shaped outside conventional boundaries, revealing a visual language that is distinctly his own.

At SOA, we don’t believe that being an artist requires making art your profession. We want to discover and support people who continue to create even when life takes them elsewhere—people who still carry the need to express something and a perspective worth sharing.

As SOA Artist 002, we are proud to introduce Eunsang Choi’s work and give his art a new opportunity to find an audience.

타고난 예술적 감각과 독창적인 시선을 지닌 최은상은 한때 화가를 꿈꾸며 예술가의 길을 그려왔습니다. 이후 타투 아티스트로 활동하며 자신의 감각을 또 다른 방식으로 표현하기도 했으며, 현재는 타투 작업을 떠나 식당을 운영하며 요식업에 몸담고 있습니다.

삶의 방향은 예술과 조금 다른 곳으로 향했지만, 창작에 대한 그의 갈망은 사라지지 않았습니다. 그림은 여전히 그에게 자신을 표현하는 가장 자연스럽고 본능적인 언어입니다. 일상의 틈에서 이어온 그의 작업에는 정형화된 틀에 얽매이지 않는 자유로움과 최은상만의 강렬한 개성이 담겨 있습니다.

SOA는 예술가란 반드시 예술을 직업으로 삼아야 하는 사람이라고 생각하지 않습니다. 삶이 다른 길로 향했더라도 창작을 멈추지 않는 사람, 마음속에 여전히 표현하고 싶은 무언가를 품고 있는 사람 역시 우리가 발견하고 응원하고 싶은 아티스트입니다.

SOA의 Artist 002로 최은상의 작품을 세상에 소개하고, 한동안 일상의 뒤편에 머물러 있던 그의 예술이 새로운 모습으로 다시 사람들과 만날 수 있게 되어 기쁩니다.
